Va. County Nixes Wind Farm

A commercial wind farm proposed along a scenic ridgeline on the Virginia-West Virginia border may be dead.

The Bluefield Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday that after a year of controversy, Tazewell County, Va., supervisors on Tuesday passed a ridgeline ordinance, which bars construction of anything taller than 40 feet without a special exemption.

Ordinance opponents said the government shouldn't restrict private property uses, but proponents said local residents feared the loss of tourism and property value from the intrusion of the huge turbines.

The 60 wind turbines would have been strung along miles of East River Mountain ridgeline and reached a height of 400 feet.

The turbines were proposed by Dominion Energy and BP Wind Energy. Dominion says it's considering its options.

The people of Tazewell

The people of Tazewell County, VA did not stand by and let big wind sneak in under the radar. Corporate wind thinks that they have a free pass to destroy communities and lives and homes and health. They set up sham meetings where they lie.

Those of us who fight big wind will continue to demand the truth, we will protest and demonstrate, and we will refuse to give up our county to the big wind salesmen in their black suits.
Groups like Appalachian Voices and Appalachian State University are bed fellows with big wind. ASU is paid by big wind. They have no problem telling us it is wrong to support coal, but it is OK to accept blowing up our mountains to ram in turbines that kill our birds.
We will continue to pound it in to their heads....BIG WIND and your massive subsidies are not welcome in our back yards. We have the truth on our side, and that is an inconvenient truth for BIG WIND.

Wise county virginia, get ready to fight for your ridges!
