New Partner for FutureGen Alliance
The FutureGen Alliance has picked up another major partner.
Caterpillar has signed on to the experimental carbon capture and sequestration project in Illinois.
The mining and construction equipment maker joins the project less than a week after Exelon, the nation's largest nuclear generator.
The project is still awaiting final approval from the Department of Energy. The federal agency says finding more partners and cutting costs will help that process.
Other major companies involved in the project include Peabody Energy, Anglo American and Rio Tinto Energy America.
