Layoffs Set for Millstone Nuclear Plant

Millstone Nuclear Plant

Layoffs are something of a rarity in the nuclear industry, but Dominion says it is laying off up to 75 people at its Millstone nuclear power plant in Connecticut after its buyout program fell short of its goal.

The job cuts are due to happen by April 1.

Company spokesman Richard Zuercher says fewer than 150 people signed up for the voluntary separation program that was first offered in January. He says Millstone now has more workers than it needs to safely operate the complex.

Dominion says 550 Millstone workers were eligible for the buyout, which was for employees at least 55 years old with at least three years of company experience.
