Growth Energy Calls for Fuel Labeling System

General Wesley Clark

Ethanol backers in Washington, DC say Americans should know where their fuel comes from, and Growth Energy is calling for country of origin labeling, or COOL, on all fuel sold in the United States.

The group's leader, General Wesley Clark, says it will help people understand what U.S. dependence on foreign oil costs our country and what they can do to help stop it.

Clarks says having that information will help Americans choose domestic sources of energy.

“The American people deserve to know the truth about the hidden costs of oil," Clark said in a press release. "The neighborhood filling station doesn’t pump neighborhood gas – it pumps a product of foreign origin that costs consumers and taxpayers billions of dollars every year. It’s past time for the American people to understand what our dependence on foreign oil costs our country and what they can do to help stop it.”

The COOL initiative, also called Label My Fuel, would in theory instate a labeling system similar to that of products like apples, beef, cars and coffee.
