Former Markey Aide Quits

Representative Ed Markey (D - MA)

An aide who was key in steering the Waxman-Markey climate bill through the House is leaving Capitol Hill.

Gerry Waldron was the staff director and chief counsel for the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming.

Chairman Ed Markey's office says Waldron is returning to private law practice in a D.C. Firm.

He'll be replaced by Michael Goo, who became counsel to the committee last February.

Markey credits what he calls Goo's "encyclopedic knowledge" of climate and energy policy and politics for the success of his climate bill last summer and predicted that it would be crucial in helping the measure become law.

Goo has previously held positions on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, as well as the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
