Alaska Legislature Overrides Palin's Funding Veto
Alaska state lawmakers are sending a parting shot to their former governor.
Members of the Alaska State Legislature voted to override Sarah Palin's veto of millions in federal stimulus funding for energy efficiency projects.
Alaska can use the $28.6 million for almost anything that reduces energy costs such as retrofitting public buildings, energy efficiency audits and public transit.
The vote was 45-14 in favor of accepting the money.
Before she left office, then-Governor Palin vetoed the money, complaining of what she called "strings" that could bind Alaska to federal codes for constructing buildings.
But lawmakers disagreed, some of them citing rural Alaskans who pay 10-times as much for electricity as residents of Anchorage.
